Events organized in my area focused around sharing and learning about cyber security.
I have been interested in cyber security for a long time, but in 2015 I began attending a conference in my area, Hackfest. I was quickly blown away by the breadth of the subject. I remember the first time I went, I had trouble following the talks because the glossary was so new to me. Nonetheless, I was definitely hooked! I have been going to the conference for a few years and managed to keep learning during the year until the next event. After the 2018 edition, my fourth participation at the event, I decided to get involved in information security more seriously. I began learning bug bounty hunting but felt lonely. I decided to start an infosec community to share my experience with others and organize events. I come from a town named Shawinigan, thus the name ShawiSec.
Along the way, I also agregated some interesting resources on ressources.shawisec.ca to easily refer to them later.
I learned a lot about organizing events. Picking a venue, finding speakers and, of course, some marketing to spread the word about the events. I am also very grateful to have met awesome people, passionate about infosec just like me.
